Cookie Monster on the Loose

cookie monster scrapbook layout

Messy babies must be photographed! It’s some kind of unspoken rule. Here is my little Henry, covered in sea salt chocolate chip cookies. YUM!

Cookie face!

For this layout, I used Basic Grey’s Ambrosia paper line. I liked mixing a pop of bright teal with the stressed, grungy look of the orange and red paper collection. This is a quick, simple layout style that can easily be used for any occasion.

Feel free to use this design in your own layouts. Thanks for stopping by, and happy crafting!

BIY – Finished Cross Stitch Art

Finished cross stitch by Bella Stitchery

As an avid crafter, I have no shortage of craft ideas in my hopper to try next (hard to imagine life before Pinterest).

I have come to the realization that just because I treasure handmade, it doesn’t mean I have to make everything. My craft room is only so big!

I’m suggesting that, rather than DIY, let’s promote BIY (buy-it-yourself) once in awhile. Save yourself the time and shopping cart full of materials for one single project that – let’s be honest – may or may not ever get made, and support other crafters. It’s a win-win!

Today’s post is all about finished cross-stitch. Cross stitching is a lot of fun, and can be extremely relaxing. Unfortunately, however, completing a beautiful work of fiber art can take months or even years! Why not spend a little extra money and get instant gratification? Plus, you’re supporting another fiber artist for all their hundreds (or thousands) of stitching hours.

Here are some fabulous stitchers that would love to share their handiwork with you and save you the time of having to do it yourself.

AnnsAntiqueTreasure is offering this finished Hummel Boy for less than $15 – fifteen dollars!!! You probably couldn’t even buy fabric and DMC floss for less than that.

Ohhhhhhhhhh, cute dancing baby Groot available at EpicStitchery. SO cute! This would also be a great gift idea!

I love this darling Donkey Kong, Mario in Love piece from HappyHaikuCrafts. This takes me back to childhood for sure.

Looking for a new twist on an old classic? How about this Les Miserables Hipster Cosette from StephXstitch? For $175, it even comes framed.

Les Mis cross stitch

I really like the greyscale look in this John Lennon piece by Christicrossstitch. There are lots more celebrity pieces available as well.

Of course, I would be remiss if I didn’t include my own stitchy work. Here are some of my completed pieces, each one available on Etsy.

This is one of my favorite pieces. It’s a high-flyin’ pin-up with airplane in the background. It measures about 14×10 inches and is ready for framing. The price has just been reduced to just $100!

Go in the Direction of Your Dreams with this darling owl cross-stitch.

There is nothing quite as sweet as this cherry cupcake cross-stitch piece. I stitched it on a soft blue Aida cloth, and it brings out the sugary sweetness of the pinks and reds within the cupcake.

Still want to stitch something yourself? Well, you have come to the right place! I have the largest cross-stitch shop on Etsy and have over 300 unique, handmade patterns ready to download. You can visit my shop here, or convo me regarding custom designs.

I also have a sale going on there too – buy 3 patterns, get 3 more FREE! It’s the perfect time to stock up on lots of great projects!

Kick Up the Caffeine – It’s Back to School Time!

Fresh and Hot Coffee cross stitch pattern

Christmas break is finally over, which means it’s back to school time! Back to routine. 6am alarm clock, waking my 8-year-old up to get ready (over and over again, until he finally rolls out of bed to get dressed and eat his oatmeal), packing lunches, feeding my 1-year-old, getting my hubby out the door so my son is on time for school…

And none of these things can happen without my coffee. I made sure to set the autotimer last night so that it would be ready first thing! Nothing like waking up to the smell of fresh java. Mmmmm…

What better way to celebrate the return to the early mornings than to roll out a brand new coffee pattern? You can find this peppy little number on Etsy and eBay.

Finished piece will be about 9.25 x 14.5 inches, based on an 18 ct. Aida cloth (size will vary slightly, depending on the size canvas you select – the stitch count is 168×260). The entire pattern is full X stitches, so it’s great for any level stitcher.

Thanks so much! Hope you have a great, coffee-filled morning, and happy stitching!

Freebie Friday – It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Krampus

Krampus Pattern by Bella Stitchery

Happy Friday! Every week I post a free pattern download. They’re available for 24 hours. After that, you can find them in my Etsy or eBay shop.

For those of you not in the know, the Krampus is a hideous anti-Santa from the old Germanic tradition. Kids misbehaving? Don’t threaten them with a boring old lump of coal; threaten them with a manacled, goat-faced demon who sneaks in at night and whips them with birch branches!

(Because Germany)

Even more (hilariously) messed up, young men have been known to dress up as the Krampus on December 5th (the eve of Saint Nicholas Day on many church calendars), and roam the streets frightening children with rusty chains and bells. Krampus is featured on holiday greeting cards called Krampuskarten.

(Because that’s what you want to see when you open an envelope on Christmas eve, right?)

This piece is 224×311 stitches, or approximately 12.5×17 inches on an 18 count fabric.

Enjoy, and happy stitching!

Fabric Blocks – the Wave of the Future!

Fun with fabric blocks

Cross-stitching, embroidering, quilting – all great, wonderful craft options. They are very time consuming, however, and I always have a dozen or so cross-stitch patterns in my hopper. Sometimes, I want to make a quick little something, either for my wall or to make as a gift. Enter, the fabric block.

If you haven’t worked with fabric blocks before, you are in for a treat! They are SO versatile and easy to work with. I make my own here at Bella Stitchery, and have several here in my Etsy shop under the “Fabric Block” category. I can also custom print designs or images for you as well. Fabric blocks are great to frame and hang as-is, or you can personalize them with your own special embroidery and embellishment. The sky is the limit!

Emmet Lego Movie Birthday Card – Free Emmet SVG Cutting File

Emmet Lego Movie Card

Everything (about this card) is awesome!

I made this for a very special four-year-old’s birthday party this weekend. Like it? Want to make one yourself?

I created the SVG cut file for my Cricut SCAL. Feel free to email me at gspeegle@gmail.com for the free file (WordPress doesn’t let me attach SVG files), if you want to make a card for yourself as well.

For Emmet’s outfit, I chalked the edges with light blue and then added some custom details with a Sharpie and strips of hand-cut gum wrapper. I printed out this image on the side here so that I could cut out the hair, smile and Emmet badge.

Lego MovieI also cut out several .5 inch circles and inked them with green Color Box Cat’s Eye chalk ink, before affixing them to the background with foam pop dots.

Inside, is a custom song, based on the “Everything is Awesome” tune from the Lego Movie:

“Everything is awesome!

Everything is awesome when you’re no longer three.

Everything is awesoooooome

At your birthday party!”

Thanks so much for stopping by, and happy crafting!
